A BIT OF BACKGROUND INFORMATION from Paul & Kathrine

We have been on-line one way and another (Micronet, Prestel, C-View, Packet Switching, JANET, Telecom Gold, etc.,) since 1983, Paul having first started playing around with communications networks at the GPO National Data Processing Service in the late 1960's.  If some of our pages seem a bit klunky it's because they started life on the back of an envelope in the 1990's before being uploaded from a French-designed Minitel terminal...

Back in 2011 we retired to the Dengie Peninsula in farthest Essex, thinking that would be the end of our travels. Everything about the location suited us perfectly - but circumstances change, and in the summer of 2019 we were delighted to join younger members of the family in making a move up to the North of England.

Our present base in West Yorkshire offers easy access to a whole string of “northern powerhouse” cities, plus some spectacular wild scenery: moors, dales, wolds, wykes (the four ‘houses’ at Paul’s primary school in Scarborough!).

Drop us an e-mail if you would like to have our current address details!

Paul adds: This year I mark a special anniversary. It’s 40 years since I began e-publishing from home. My monthly “Vicar’s Letter” became available in full colour using Viewdata (Prestel) technology. If you owned a home computer (such as BBC Micro or a Sinclair Spectrum) plus a compatible modem (Micronet VTX or similar), you could dial up the Vicarage and I would manually switch you into my streaming capability. I think this was a world first! Unfortunately, there was only one other person in my parish with the equipment required to call me for a download…

Our family motto:  OUBLIE DONC NE SUIS

~ time was when we knew what this meant: sadly no longer...  ;-)
