Letter to the Commander of a Peace-keeping Force



Romeo Dallaire was Commander of the UN peacekeeping force in Rwanda. He's now a Canadian senator, and in 2007 he sent an open letter to Martin Agwai, newly appointed Head of a similar force in Darfur. Among his observations:

 

You can anticipate being let down by everyone on whom you depend for support - be that troops, funding, logistics or political engagement. Bear in mind that whoever fails you will in the end be the most active in blaming you for whatever goes wrong!
